BEFORE the last day of school we sit in a circle and I go around saying one significant thing about each child and then we discuss our favorite Lindergarten memories. I can't usually get through these thype of things on the last day because I will cry. I have a hard time letting go...

ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing to do on the last day of school is to give each student an envelope with my home address so they can write me over the summer. I have always had at least one student do this. I think it gives them comfort to know they aren't forgotten and still matter to you.

ReplyDeleteOne thing I do the last day of school is have a "raffle". I draw names for a table full of "prizes" (i.e. junk out of my cabinet) The kids think they have treasures and I have cleaned my cabinets:)

On the last day, we go back to the chart we made on the first day of school where they each told me something they wanted to learn in first grade. So we "check off" each item that we accomplished!

ReplyDeleteAt the end of school I like to take all the pictures that I have taken throughout the year and make a video for each child. That way they will always remember all the fun things we did in Kindergarten.

We have our Kindergarten Celebration before the last day of school. I always get a copy of the dvd of the ceremony. On the last day of school, we all watch it together. The kids love seeing themselves on "tv" and I always manage to cry even though I've already seen it!

ReplyDeleteOn the last day of school, I gather my class before parents join us for our awards, slide show and picnic, and tell them that they will always be one of "my kids" and they can always come to me. I go over safety situations for the summer and remind them to read.
ReplyDeleteLove your site!! What is the font that you use!! I love it!!

ReplyDeleteOn the last day of school we raffle off all of our classmade books. tillack@verizon.net
ReplyDeleteAnother fun thing we do is we have a 3x3 grid and we choose 9 friends to write something positive about. We keep them a secret, cut them apart and put them in each other's end of the year folders so that the recepients will "find" them when they get home and go through their school memories folder. tillack@verizon.net

Our last day of school is only two hours and part of that is spent meeting the teachers the students will have next year. The time that is left we use to do our memory books.

I just finished my student teaching on Tuesday, but I already miss my first graders so I'm going back several days in these last two weeks of school for them. I'm definitely going back for their field trip to the nearby park to play games, make crafts, and have a picnic with them! Usually, the first grade team makes a school memories book. However, they loop to second grade so we decided that instead of making a memory book this year and again next year with the same kiddos, they'd change it up. We ordered an inflatable beach ball for every student and they will get to have every classmate sign it. Just thinking about beach balls makes me excited for summer so I'm sure they will enjoy it! Then, next year, they will make a first and second grade memories book.
